Joe Ong Teng Kiat

Data Science & AI student at NTU, building AI automation for a real e-commerce business.

Hybrid merge sort that hands short runs to insertion sort, from my SC2001 algorithms project.

About

I like turning messy, repetitive work into systems that run on their own.

I'm a second-year Bachelor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence student at Nanyang Technological University, graduating in 2029. Outside class I intern at Nook Theory, where I build AI-driven automation for their Amazon storefront, and I help run events for the NTU Sports Club.

Experience

  1. Aug 2026 – now

    AI Intern

    Nook Theory, Amazon seller

Automating business workflows with AI for a brand selling home, travel and lifestyle products. Building a recurring listing audit that benchmarks listings against competitors and flags which ones convert well enough to put ad spend behind.

  2. 2026

    Organiser, SportsBash26

    NTU Sports Club

Organised the club's annual ball, "A Never Ending Summer", including the event website and sign-ups for freshies, seniors, alumni and guests.

  3. 2025 – 2029

BSc Data Science & Artificial Intelligence

    Nanyang Technological University

Coursework includes algorithm design and analysis, and database systems.

Projects

Plot-level EUDR compliance screening

SystemEarth Hack & Hire challenge, team project

Designing a compact, query-efficient way to represent geospatial layers so individual farm plots can be screened against the EU Deforestation Regulation. Our showcase case is natural rubber supply chains.

Automated Amazon listing audit

Nook Theory

A recurring audit that compares each product listing with competitors, checks conversion, and recommends copy and image fixes, so the ads team only pushes listings that are ready.

  • LLM automation
  • E-commerce
  • Data analysis

Hybrid merge–insertion sort

SC2001 Algorithm Design & Analysis

Implemented and benchmarked a merge sort that switches to insertion sort below a threshold, measuring how the threshold affects key comparisons and runtime. The chart at the top of this page runs it.

Relational database design

SC2207 Introduction to Databases, team project

Modelled a business domain from requirements to an ER diagram, documented assumptions, and normalised the schema to 3NF.
